Lima's Professional Pharmacy Makes Commitment to Service the Diabetes Community by Patti Cady, Computer Operator/Clerk Approximately 15.7 million people, or 5.9% of the United States population, have diabetes. Diabetes is a condition in which the body does not produce the insulin that is needed to convert sugar in the blood into energy or cannot use the insulin it produces. Lima's Professional Pharmacy has begun focusing its healthcare efforts in servicing the diabetes patient. Bob and Ramona Lima saw the need to offer the Diabetes Shoppe as part of their pharmacy. The Diabetes Shoppe is a program consisting of education, training and products for people with diabetes. With education and training as the primary goals, Lima's Professional Pharmacy will work with the medical community to help assist the diabetes population. The Diabetes Shoppe carries an extensive line of diabetes care products, such as blood glucose monitors, specialty items and sugar free foods. Uncontrolled diabetes leads to major long-term health problems such as nerve damage, blindness, lower limb amputations, heart and kidney disease. The Diabetes Shoppe program allows us to work more closely with the diabetes patient to assist them to better control their disease. Members of our staff have attended diabetic training sessions in an effort to assist our patients in meeting their diabetic needs.
